The shape of Mount Bromo is intertwined between valleys and canyons with a caldera or sea of ​​sand covering about 10 square kilometers. During the 20th and 21st centuries, Mount Bromo has erupted several times, with regular intervals of 30 years. The biggest eruption occurred in 1974, while the last eruption occurred in 2015-present.

For residents around Mount Bromo, the Tengger Tribe, Mount Bromo or Mount Brahma are believed to be sacred mountains. Every year the Tengger people hold a Yadnya Kasada or Kasodo ceremony.

This ceremony takes place at a temple under the foot of Mount Bromo and continues to the top of Bromo. The ceremony is held in the middle of the night until the early hours of each full moon around the 14th or 15th of the month of Kasodo (tenth) according to the Javanese calendar. (WS.IN/ENG/*)
