The Beauty of Colorful Mountains in Zhangye Danxia National Park National Geological Park in China

When Danaxia Landform was first known to audiences through photographs circulating in cyberspace, many considered the rainbow pattern as a result of photoshop and computer engineering edits. However, in fact this rainbow mountain is indeed genuine.

INDEPHEDIA.com - This strange and unique phenomenon of the rainbow mountain in China had horrified the virtual world. The phenomenon was further revealed after various amateur writings and videos added new facts about the existence of colorful arches in Zhangye City, in Gansu Province, China.

The Zhangye Danxia Geological Park National (China: 张掖 丹霞 国家 地质 公园), it covers an area of 510 square kilometers (200 sq mi). Previously, the provincial park and the scenic area became a national geopark in November 2011.

This rainbow mountain is amazing because the hills and valleys consist of layers of red, blue, emerald green, brown and yellow. Interestingly, in that place no plants or animals were found because of the condition of the barren land.

According to the Telegraph, the amazing colors of the hills come from the red sandstone and minerals formed since the Cretaceous period, exactly 24 million years ago. The rock formation then undergoes a shift in tectonic plates which also form the Himalayas.

Rain and wind that hit the area for millions of years also contributed to the formation of niches, valleys and color patterns of Zhangye Danxia. That said, this mountain will display a different color pattern, depending on weather conditions.

This area quickly became a popular tourist attraction for Zhangye City. A number of sidewalks and roads have been built to encourage visitors to explore amazing rock formations, especially after UNESCO has set it on the World Heritage List at the 34th meeting held in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, on August 1, 2010.

When Danaxia Landform was first known to audiences through photographs circulating in cyberspace, many considered the rainbow pattern as a result of photoshop and computer engineering edits. However, in fact this rainbow mountain is indeed genuine. Now, it is one of the most sought-after tourist attractions in China that generates high income for Zhangye residents. (WS.IN/ENG/*)
