Dieng Plateau Tourism Object, Central Java

 


INDEPHEDIA.com - The Dieng Plateau is an active volcanic area to the west of the Mount Sindoro and Mount Sumbing complexes, which are included in the Banjarnegara and Wonosobo Regencies, Central Java Province, Indonesia.

Administratively, Dieng is located in the Dieng Kulon Village, Batur Subdistrict, Banjarnegara and Dieng Districts ("Dieng Wetan"), Kejajar District, Wonosobo Regency. Because it has natural beauty and historical-cultural heritage, the Dieng Plateau is much visited by tourists.

The name Dieng comes from a combination of two Kawi words: "di" which means "place" or "mountain" and "Hyang" which means God. Thus, Dieng means the mountainous area where the gods and goddesses reside. Another theory states, the name Dieng comes from the Sundanese language ("in hyang") because it is thought that in the pre-Medang period (around the 7th century AD) the area was under the political influence of the Galuh Kingdom.



Some natural charms and historical-cultural relics in the Dieng Plateau which have been made as tourist attractions and managed jointly by two districts, namely Banjarnegara and Wonosobo, among others, Color Lake, Pengilon Lake and Merdada Lake, Sikidang Crater, Silidang Crater, Sinila and Candradimuka Crater , Jalatunda Well and Serayu River springs and caves, such as Semar Cave, Jaran Cave and Sumur Cave which are located between Telaga Warna and Pengilon Lake.

Not only natural attractions, in the Dieng Plateau there are Hindu temple complexes built around the 7th century AD, including Gatotkaca Temple, Bima Temple, Arjuna Temple, Semar Temple, Sembadra Temple, Srikandi Temple, Setyaki Temple, Gangsiran Aswatama, Nakula-Sadewa Temple, Parikesit Temple, and Dwarawati Temple.

Then, there is also the Dieng Volcanic Theater, a theater to see films about volcano in Dieng, and the Dieng Kailasa Museum which stores artifacts and provides information about nature (geology, flora-fauna), Dieng community (daily life, agriculture, beliefs, arts) and heritage archeology from Dieng.
